It wasn't until an email I received that I contemplated how wasteful this was. It's not just me, it's most people that don't even take their receipts, and if they take them they will likely end up in the trash or wadded up at the bottom of a purse.

I think it's a great subject. I can't believe that I've never considered the impact. Imagine all that could be saved form eliminating something that most people don't use anyways!

Hmm, interesting. I take all receipts but I need them for tax purposes. I think they should only be printed off if someone asks for a receipt because they need it. And most stores require proof of purchase (aka receipt) if you need to return/exchange. The store shouldn't print if the customer says "No thanks!"
Sometimes the receipt comes in handy for a return, but mostly they just aren't necessary. Thanks for the great post. Peace. :)
