Be green in unexpected ways.

While browsing twitter one day, I stumbled upon Sprout.  Sprout makes trendy and colorful watches, but they're not just any watches.  They are very eco-friendly.

Every Sprout watch is lead and phthalate free for starters.  Each watch features a corn resin case & buckle, an organic wrist strap, natural bamboo dial, mineral crystal and mercury free battery.

Corn resin is 99% biodegradable but will not break down during regular wear and use.  Mineral crystal is a type of glass made from sand.  Most medium price range watches are made from plexiglass (plastic).  Mercury free batteries are a big deal in my opinion.  Mercury is toxic and even small amounts of exposure may cause negative effects on one's health.

I really like this watch.  When I first got it, I opened up the simple packaging (mostly recycled and totally recyclable!).  Inside I found a very cool watch and a seed pack. It is meant to grow a little patch of grass.

I think it's an adorable idea and I was excited to share it with my kids.  I popped it open and wet the gauze as instructed.  I placed it on my counter and started doing dishes.  The next thing I know my daughter is eating the seeds!  Oh goodness!  Sadly our seeds didn't recover, but we've moved on to new plants and they are doing just fine :)

I want to mention the design of these.  Some have a large chunky face, and others are small.  Be sure you know which you want!  I didn't realize this at first and while I really like mine, a smaller face would likely match my wardrobe better.

I think these watches are a lot of fun and would be a great hit for teens, and what a fun and easy way to get them involved.  My brother is 17 and owns similarly styled items.  I love the bright colors on these too.  Great for summer!  I just love adding color to my wardrobe in the summer.

What's great about these watches is that they really have styles for anyone.  There are fun colorful numbers and then simple neutral combos that will go with just about anything.  There is really something for almost everyone.
