Very Cool Gift Idea!

So, I saw this posted and fell in *love* with the idea! It is a repurposed entertainment center! If only I had seen this before we ditched ours! (so kicking myself for that now)

Is this not the coolest play kitchen ever!?!
Just think of the *endless* possibilities in customizing this for your child to fit their needs, wants and personalities to a T!
Can you believe that it started out as this!
I don't know about most kids, but I know that mine *love* imagination play and especially anything relate to real life (cooking, dishes, vacuuming, etc.)

We have a plastic play kitchen. My mom got it for my son a couple years ago. I love that the kids love it, but it doesn't have room for two kids (so they do a bit of yelling over it) and it's plastic, so that's not my favorite feature :\ I can't wait to do this for our kids. I just need to find a cheap entertainment center. When I do, I'll be sure to update with some pictures!

Thank you to Erin of Sutton Grace for allowing me to use her images and post this for you!

Be sure to check out the full tutorial to do this for yourself!

If you do this, please send me pictures! I would love to see your creativity in action :)

Check out the spankin' new Thirsties Duo Diaper

I have mentioned Thristies before. They are the first diaper cover I ever tried and I have loved them ever since. They work great and come in so many colors!

Thirsties is a small (but growing!) cloth diaper company committed to greener parenting and eco friendly solutions, not to mention 100% USA made quality! Their diapers are made by work at home mothers, and very close to their Canon City warehouse, reducing their carbon output. They donate to Miracle Diapers, a company in which one can apply for free or low cost diapers to those with financial need. Their diapers are made of a Micro Fleece that is very soft to the touch. Please take a moment to read more about them, their commitment to our planet, and how they choose to operate. You can find that here.

Thirsties has lots of other products too, you can even request a catalog by going here :)

I recently reviewed the new Duo Wrap. I loved it. I like the fit of sized things, but the freedom of a multi-size is great too. The size of the cover can be made to fit whatever diaper I have on under the cover. It's fantastic.

Needless to say, I was thrilled to hear that they were coming out with mult-size diapers. There are many diapers that are One-size, but most simply will not work on newborn babies. They usually kick in around 10 lbs.

Thirsties was so sweet and sent me a Duo Diaper in size 1 and 2 to try on my girls to review... and do a giveaway!

Here are the two diapers. The size 1 is on the smallest setting and the size 2 is on the largest.

Here it is opened up. Check out the opening in both the front *and* back. I immediately thought to myself "boy, I bet I don't have to take the insert out to wash!" Guess what ladies and gents!!! You don't! I've been using these for a couple of weeks now, washing about every other day. It has come free and washed perfectly each and every time! Can I say "WOO HOO!"
Want another perk? Check out this double layered insert (size 1 left, size 2 right).... One layer is microfiber, the other is hemp/cotton!!!
Yay for some natural fiber choices! (this was my wish with the last review!)
Let's get to fit :) Here is the size 1 on my youngest. She's just under 13 lbs. I have it on the middle setting here and it is a great fit. It is SO trim. Look at that great fit around the legs :)
Here is the size 2, also on the middle setting, on my older daughter. She's around 25 lbs. Great fit, fits well under her pants!
So you want to know about absorbency? Well, I've yet to have a problem :) Both girls are actually napping in theirs right now. I haven't had a single leak or wicking problem!

The main reason that I was so thrilled to try this in both sizes is that many diapers just don't have enough absorbency for older kids. This one has done great for me. My daughter is a heavy wetter too. The great thing is that since the inserts in this are pretty thin, you can easily add more to it. I tossed in a hemp insert and used this overnight; it worked great.

What don't I like? Well, nothing really. It works great, fits great and I love that it is not a completely synthetic insert. That's a big plus for me. I would happy to have more of these. I think that the largest size will last longer for my daughter than some other diapers because of the nice long rise.

Special thank you to Moby!

I recently wrote about my love of babywearing (Wear Your Baby Giveaway) and my experience with the Moby Wrap.

I am a huge believer in the power and benefits of baby wearing. (I really need to get a post up about this!)

Lana from Moby Wrap saw the blog post and offered a Moby for our readers as a thank you for the review (It was my pleasure, I can assure you!)

I was elated! As I wrote about before, my oldest daughter was born premature at just 33 weeks (we have 3 kids big brother & two little sisters!) I discovered baby wearing when an amazing nurse (thank you Mary!) told be about Kangaroo Care. Our daughter is the most peaceful, secure child and she grew! Oh my goodness how she grew. After the first 3 months or so, she was right on track with her actual age. Of course wearing her didn't do this alone, but I fully believe that it played a large part in her development.

As I said before, Moby is generously donating a wrap for a reader to win :)

The reader will be able to choose any solid colored wrap from their site and it will be shipped directly to the winner from Moby Wrap (thank you again for this opportunity!)

So let's get to it!

Just as before: This is open to everyone, however, I do hope that someone who hasn't had a chance to wear their baby gets the opportunity to because of this. It is an incredible gift for your child and it helps create an amazing bond.

----Update! We have a winner!----
The giveaway portion is over :) Thank you to everyone that participated!

Congratulations to Amber! Enjoy wearing your baby!

Get Stains OUT! of Your Diapers!

So, you use cloth, Congrats!

Aaaaand you hate stains. You're in luck!

There is a crazy simple solution :)

The sun!

Wash and dry your diapers as usual. (Need help with that? Try these tips!)

Line dry your diapers. This works in cold weather (I wouldn't do it in freezing weather) and even cloudy days. Sunny days will work best, and warm days will help dry your diapers best of course, but the sun will bleach out the stains! It is truly amazing.

When you're all done (or the day is), bring them indoors. If they aren't dry, toss them in the dryer or let them air dry (I would ONLY do this if they were like the most itty bitty bit of damp.)

Enjoy your stain free diapers!

This is March in Ohio!
Don't have a clothesline? I use a retractable version mounted to our deck and it hooks onto our garage.

No place for even a retractable? No problem!

You can still sun through a window. I've done this before through a side window and it did work, not as fast, but it did work. I would imagine a larger window with more direct sunlight would work great. Try putting your diapers on a rack like this in front of the window.
This method of "sunning" also works great on clothing stains from foods and other miscellaneous things.

See here about cleaning up stained kids clothes (and anything else for that matter).

More Kid DIY Gift Ideas

So the holidays are coming and I keep searching for things to make the kids.

I have some DIY kid gifts listed here on a previous post.

AND if DIY isn't your thing, I have some store/shop bought options listed here.

Let's get started with a FABULOUS idea for doll clothes :) Talk about too cute and saving some cash.

Doll clothes from dollar store undies! I found this on the Old Day, Old Ways blog.
Tutorial complete with patterns! These fit 18" dolls, but could certainly be modified.

I also came across this simply AMAZING tutorial on how to transfer images from your computer onto wood. It's insane and awesome.

This is from Matsutake

She even has a video demonstration!

Once you figure out how to do that, put it to good use with this great idea!

What little boy wouldn't *LOVE* these to play with, or little girl to use with her dolls! You could totally customize it to your child/family.

Last, but not lease, also from Matsutake

Make totally custom rugs! Just think of how you could customize your child's room. Even use this for teens an adults! (Sports teams, pop stars, etc!)

Her blog has *great* ideas. And a little birdy told me that there maybe be more tutorials on the way! So keep an eye out, I know I will.

Wear Your Baby Giveaway

I'd like to talk a little about wearing your baby. I say a little, because there is so much to it, but that's for another post :D

When I had my son my aunt sent me a ring sling. I was confused by it and had NO idea how to use it. I tried a few times but never could figure it out.

A few years later I found myself in a hospital room with our next child, a daughter born at just 33 weeks and 3 days. I was scared and she was so tiny. My nurse gave me a book about Kangaroo Care. I sat up reading this book cover to cover. I was drawn in by the stories and the amazing bodily connection that we have with our children even after birth. Even now, thinking back about those emotions brings tears to my eyes. It's an amazing book and I suggest reading it, even if you aren't a parent. (I'll talk more about this in another post as well!)

After reading this book, I was so determined to have my daughter on me as much as humanly possible. I borrowed my mother-in-law's laptop while I was in the hospital and did some research. I read about the Moby Wrap. I had to have one. I spent what seemed like an arm and a leg on the product and priority shipping, lol. It was the best purchase I made for our baby girl.

I can't begin to tell you what I feel that this did for our daughter. The way she thrived and how peaceful she is. She is the most amazing child. She is gentle and loving and secure. I love the way that she is with her brother. So loving, always sharing. She can be nuts too, don't get me wrong, but there is something more there, and I am confident that wearing her played a roll in that.

When I would wear her in the stores or just out and about, she would sleep. So peaceful. When she wasn't sleeping she loved to suck on the Moby, lol. I almost forgot about that! I remember thinking (every time I wore her), I wish I had known about this with our son.

I remember him in his carrier crying in stores, me trying to calm him. I remember picking him up and trying to hold him and push my cart while trying to get some food in our house. I wish I had known! Not only would it have made things easier for me, my little boy could have been so much more secure back then. He's an amazing child, so smart and so generous. I just wish I could have given him that nurturing - that gift.

Here I am wearing our older daughter :) She's about 7 months old in this photo. We went on a train ride that day. It was my birthday.

I also want to mention that even though my daughter was premature, I truly believe that everyone should wear their child if it's possible. There is a bond there that is just amazing and I think every parent should be able to experience that and every child should have the benefit of that connection as well. It's amazing.

Can you tell this is something I really believe in? :D

Let me share a story from another woman :) This is from Nicole at Bebeology. She is amazing btw. I have mentioned both her and her store on this blog before. I just adore her and think that she is such a sweet soul. Anyhow :) Here is her testimony to the Moby :)

"I love the Moby Wrap and it is definitely one of the few items that I cannot live without. My son was born 4 weeks early and we started using the Moby Wrap at the hospital. Since he was pre-term, it was highly recommend that we practice a lot of skin-to-skin contact immediately following his birth. I was very surprised how many of the nurses were not familiar with baby-wearing and I was extremely happy that I had taken the time to learn the basic wrap a few days before our son arrived. I believe my son enjoyed being “hugged” close to me in the fabric, and I know that I enjoyed the closeness of wearing my baby. Since his birth, the Moby Wrap is the only way that I can get anything done at home. He feels very secure and I am hands-free most of my day. I run a small home-based business and incorporating play, security, and attachment into my daily work tasks is essential! Most days the only way I get him to nap is when he is wrapped and worn. He also gets swaddled in the same fabric with a Moby Swaddle blanket every night. I believe the familiar comfort of the fabric adds extra comfort to our nighttime routine."

Because baby wearing is something near and dear to the both of us, Nicole of Bebeology has generously donated a Chocolate Moby Wrap to be given away to one very lucky reader :) You'll have a chance to enter here shortly :)

Let me tell you a little more about the Moby Wrap.

To start, here is a great video from Moby showing how easy it is to use :) I wish I knew how to put this in the post, but I don't, so here's a link :)

The Moby is for babies preemie up to 35 lbs.

There are so many ways to wear your baby with a Moby. Front, back, hip and several variations of each. Here are just a few :) Notice how these babies look comfortable and secure. You don't get that with all carriers! (Speaking of carriers, I can't wait to show off some other styles!)
The Moby is made out of 100% cotton. It's light, breathable and comfortable even in hot weather.

It's incredibly easy to care for. I just toss mine in the wash with my regular laundry.

Do you want one of these yet? I sure hope so! Here's your chance to win one :) If you don't win, I truly hope that you consider buying one. I don't get anything if you do, except for the hope that you'll you experience the joy of wearing your baby :)

While this is open to everyone, I do hope that someone who hasn't had a chance to wear their baby gets the opportunity to because of this. It is an incredible gift for your child and it helps create an amazing bond.

Holiday Cards

The holidays are upon us and I'm sure many of us will be sending out cards to loved ones.

If you are crafty, you can make your own, save a buck and hopefully reuse some items, paper, etc. Sadly, not all of us are crafty and not all of us have the time. I have three kids. While I would *love* to sit down and create something, I know it's never happening :D

I thought I would share with you, an earth friendly option for this year :)

Nesting Shoppe is a made in the USA, eco-friendly company that designs and sells Holiday Cards, printed on thick quality, double sided, full color, 100% recycled papers.

They also do beautiful Announcements, Invitations, Stationery, Canvas Artwork and Growth Charts (great gift ideas!).

Nesting's items are inspired from all things that are good, pure and organic. Most of their designs have been inspired by nature: birds, nests, twigs, trees, flowers, branches, berries, and leaves.

Each one of their designs is crafted and designed from scratch--which means all-organic, 100% original. They do not use templates and each one of their designs has been created and then perfected so only the best will do, not just for their customers, but for Nesting, too!

Nesting believes that even with the explosion of the digital technology, paper goods should not become obsolete. One of their main goals is to keep the excitement of stationery, paper goods and announcements delivered to you—but on 100% Earth-Friendly Recycled Papers.

Check out these beautiful designs :)

Happy Holidays!
